Dumfries, who was born in Glasgow, began his career at local side St Mirren before moving to Scotland's top flight with Dundee United. He made a name for himself during the 1997-98 season when he scored a hat-trick against Rangers.

In January 1999, Dumfries moved to Italy to join Serie A giants Inter Milan. It was there that he would experience his greatest success on the international stage, leading Inter to three consecutive Serie A titles between 2001-2004.

One of his most memorable moments came in the 2001 Champions League final, where Inter faced Bayern Munich. Despite being heavily outplayed by the German champions, Dumfries inspired his team with his determination and skill. His goal in extra time secured a famous victory for Inter,Football Mirror which remains one of the club's most iconic victories.

After leaving Inter, Dumfries played for several clubs across Europe, including Roma, AC Milan, and Ajax. He retired from professional football in 2016, but his legacy as one of Scotland's best-ever players lives on.
