Liu Yang is a Chinese astronaut who has been serving as the first woman astronaut in China since 2019. She was born on April 16, 1980, in Zhejiang Province, and grew up in Shanghai. Liu graduated from Tsinghua University with a degree in aerospace engineering.

In May 2010, Liu was selected to join the Shenzhou-9 mission as one of the two female astronauts. The mission took place in December 2011, and she became the second Chinese woman to fly into space.
